The Empirical Method
The empirical method: The probability of an event occurring experimentally or an approximate probability.
Probability Using the Empirical Method:
- The probability of Event E is approximately the quotient of the number of times Event E occurs and the number of repetitions of the experiment.
- P(E) ≈ relative frequency of E = (frequency of E) / (number of trials of E)
Mathematicians can obtain the probability of an event using different methods. The empirical method involves finding the probability of an event experimentally, or empirically. Probabilities of this type use the idea of relative frequency, or an approximate probability.
