Geometric Mean (GM)

Geometric mean (GM): A measure of central tendency calculated by multiplying a series of numbers and taking the nth root of the product, where n is the number of items in the series.

The geometric mean is often used to find an average for numbers presented as percentages.

Use the following formula to find the geometric mean:

Geometric mean `= GM = √(n&(X_1 )(X_2 )(X_3 )…(X_n ) )`

The geometric mean is used to average percentages, indexes, and relatives. If a data set contains negative numbers, the geometric mean is not applicable because there cannot be a negative square root.
